Warburton Township

600m/10min walk

Warburton is an old timber town dating back to the mid 1800’s and evidence of its tough and rugged history remains today. Beautiful old historic buildings, colourful local artwork, galleries and the giant Waterwheel at the information centre are all to be enjoyed. Local boutique homewares and vintage shops make for a slow stroll down the main street to purchase some local goods.

For lovers of good food there are several cafes, a coffee Roastery, the beautiful historic Alpine Hotel and a few restaurants for a local dinner out. We will send you some recommendations on the perfect place for lunch and dinner.

Mount Donna Buang Snow Summit and National Park

Mt Donna Buang is the closest Snow Field to Melbourne so it’s popular in the Winter months for Tobogganing and snow fun. But it can be enjoyed all year round with a 21 metre lookout tower and various walking and hiking trails to explore. Towering gums and ferny forest make this a beautiful picnic spot in the Warmer months to take in some stunning Yarra Valley views.

The Redwood Forest

The Redwood Forest is located in East Warburton, with giant Californian Redwoods (Sequoias) planted in orderly rows creating a magical forest in which to explore. You might find some of the photogenic circular tree art sculptures on the forest floor, or perhaps pack a picnic to enjoy along one of the many trails surrounding the Redwood. It’s the perfect place for hide and seek with the kids. Cement Creek also runs alongside the forest, with its running waters creating a beautiful backdrop to enjoy.

The Rainforest Gallery Walk

This elevated boardwalk is part of the National Park and meanders through magical old growth rainforest. The highlight is a 15 metre elevated platform which allows you to sit amongst the towering gums in the tree canopy. It is a truly magical nature experience for all ages and abilities.

The Yarra River

500m/5 min walk

The iconic Yarra River holds activities for all, in every season. You can walk the scenic ‘Yarra River Trail’ which meanders alongside the river and township, with multiple crossings over the historic swing bridges of Warburton. This stunning trail passes through towering gums, ferny glades and giant Redwoods. In Summer it’s the perfect spot for a cooling swim or try floating down the river over the gentle rapids in a locally hired river tube. Fishing and birdlife are also a highlight.

3km to The Aqueduct Trail

  • The Yarra River Trail – 6km walk following the Yarra River and past the township
  • La La Falls – A 3.2km walk to La La Falls through a rainforest trail.
  • O’shannassy Aqueduct Trail – spans 30km from East Warburton to Don valley and is a beautiful, flat picturesque walk with stunning views lined with tree ferns, gums and pines.
  • The Warburton Rail Trail – A flat walk beginning in the centre of town, following the old Warburton Railway line.
  • Mt Donna Buang Summit – A tough hike of 16km to Mt Victoria Summit.

Lake Mountain Ski Resort

Victoria’s snow season officially begins in June and can run to the end of September, beginning of October. This can vary from year to year. There are two options for some snow fun from Warburton. Mt Donna BuangSummit is just a 20 min drive and is great for tobogganing and snow play during the Winter Months.
Mt Donna Buang is lower in altitude than Lake Mountain so the snow conditions can be a little more unpredictable.

Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is a fully operational ski resort located approx 1 hours drive from Warburton. It is a beautiful scenic drive from Warburton either via Camberville or you can take the slightly longer route stopping at Marysville where you can hire all your snow gear and chains if need be. Lake Mountain Resort has snow making abilities so you are guaranteed some snow fun even if the weather conditions are not favourable for snow. You can rent everything you need there for a fun day at the snow including clothing hire, ski gear and toboggans. There is a cafe, snow tubing, cross country skiing, snow hikes and even snowboarding lessons for the kids. It’s a great day out from Gingers on the Hill.

Cycling around Warburton

1km - The Warburton Rail Trail

Warburton is well known for it’s many bike trails which cater for all levels and styles. The Warburton to Lilydale Rail Trail is perfect for all types of bike, a family ride or for longer rides along the entire length of the Rail Trail. The Aqueduct Trail also provides a great family ride as it is flat but feels a little more rugged tucked up in the mountains, and it’s an easy grade mountain bike track. There are Mountain Bike trails scattered around the area for the more adventurous and Lake Mountain Resort has some of Victoria’s best MTB Trails in the warmer months for all levels and skills.

Healesville Township

Healesville is just a 30 minute drive from Warburton so Gingers on the Hill is an easy base to explore it from. The Healesville Sanctuary/Zoo is a must see for a beautiful native Australian wildlife experience.

The Healesville township is full of amazing local produce shops as well as stylish homewares and clothing stores. Four Pillars Distillary is famous for its award winning gins and tasting experiences and some smaller boutique wineries and breweries are scattered nearby for a touring experience.

Healesville is a foodie’s haven. It’s renowned for its variety of restaurants, cafes and hotels which pride themselves on locally sourced food and products.

Healesville Sanctuary

The Healesville Sanctuary/Zoo is not far away and is the ultimate Australian Native wildlife experience. The world famous ‘Bird Show’ is a must see.

Yarra Valley Wineries and Distilleries

There are over 80 wineries in the Yarra Valley. Many of the larger production, well-known wineries such as Yering Station, Domaine Chandon, Rochford, and Levantine Hill are found around the Healesville and Coldstream area a 30 to 40-minute beautiful drive from Warburton. But there are also some much closer options from Warburton to be enjoyed for tastings, dining, and tours. The Seville area boasts Paynes Rise, Seville Hill, and Whispering Hills all set amongst the rolling green hills of the Yarra Valley.
